A quick signing surprised the whole Alberta 1 squad yesterday, as management hired South African talent Luke McColl.
“Our team’s primary focus right now is training lead riders who will carry us up the rankings, however when Luke’s contract with disco cycling expired last week he approached me looking to make a quick deal” said Sean
The former division 2 competitor for disco cycling explained, “I really wanted to return to division 7 as that is where I have had lots of success earlier in my career. I was also looking for an English speaking team because I had a difficult time understanding the dutch commonly spoken at disco.” When asked how a deal was reached with Alberta 1 he replied, “Alberta 1 has a strong developing team with lots opportunity for personal success, so I made Sean a sharp offer and he jumped at it.”
Sean also commented, “I believe McColl will help us a lot when we push for a promotion in a couple weeks. He adds some depth to the team that we desperately need.”
One man who is not happy with the deal is the recently acquired Davin Wann, “I can’t believe this! I feel I will never get my career off the ground… First I am dumped by Korten Cycletek, because Ross wanted to train other riders instead of me. I told him those riders didn’t have what it took to lead a team, but he wouldn’t believe me. Sure enough, those riders didn’t amount to much and he later sold off his team and left cycling. Then Brian from lastplace1414 signed me and gave me a little training, but it was clear that he never planned to make me any type of leader. When I was traded to Alberta 1 I figured surely an under developed division 7 team focused on rider development will train me, with my potential I could be a legend in this class!”
“And now, after receiving a little half hearted intermittent training I am replaced with an old has been! I just rode an amazing Nyborg – Middelfart where I defeated superior competition for a 2nd place finish and what do I get for a thank you? A slap in the face, not only am I replaced the same day with my improvement funds, now I’m stuck on a job!! Doesn’t anyone realize that I’m in the prime of my career? Other riders my age are leading their teams to division 1 glory and I’m stuck with this!"
“If I don’t get treated better soon I will Quit my cycling career altogether and work for my Dad’s plumbing company!”
Alberta 1 management claim that they still plan to fully train Wann and are sorry he has been victimised by this situation.
